PRODUCCIÓN DE SEMILLAS Y BULBOS La superficie nacional de semilleros es de aproximadamente 45.000 hectáreas, distribuidas principalmente en las regiones del Maule (44%), O’Higgins (22%) y Biobío (13%). El principal destino de la producción de semillas es el mercado externo, aprovechando especialmente las ventajas de la contra estación. Tradicionalmente la principal semilla exportada ha sido la de maíz, aunque a partir de 2015 el grupo de semillas de hortalizas ocupó el primer lugar. La producción de semillas en Chile ha recuperado su expansión después de una importante caída de las exportaciones en 2015 y 2016. SEEDS AND BULB PRODUCTION The national area for seed production is approximately 45,000 hectares, distributed mainly in the regions of Maule (44%), O’Higgins (22%) and Biobío (13%). The main destination for seed production is the external market, especially taking advantage of the advantages of off season, and traditionally the main exported seed has been corn, although as of 2015 the group of vegetable seeds occupied the first place. Seed production in Chile has recovered its expansion, after a significant drop in exports in 2015 and 2016.
