PLANTACIONES FORESTALES Y CERTIFICACIÓN La superficie plantada con especies forestales se ha mantenido estable durante la última década, con una baja en 2017 debido a la devastación provocada por los incendios forestales, los peores en más de un siglo. Las regiones más afectadas fueron Maule, Biobío y O’Higgins, donde se concentra la mayor industria forestal del país. Respecto de las especies, se aprecia predominancia de las plantaciones de pino radiata, las cuales constituyen un 60% del total. Del consumo industrial de aproximadamente 45,7 millones de m 3 de madera en trozas en 2017, el 35% se utilizó para la producción de madera aserrada, el 36% para la producción pulpa química y el 10% para tableros y chapas. X. FOREST PLANTATIONS AND CERTIFICATION The area planted with forest species has remained stable over the last decade, with a decline in 2017 due to the devastation caused by forest fires, the worst of more than a century. The most affected regions were Maule, Biobío and Libertador B. O’Higgins, where the largest forestry industry in the country is concentrated. Respect to the species, there is a predominance of Pinus radiata, which constitute 60% of the total area in planted forest. From a total industrial consumption of approximately 45.7 million cubic metres of logged timber in 2017, 35% was used for the production of sawn timber, 36% for chemical pulp, and 10% for boards and veneers.
